Budget Blinds: Celebrating 15 Years

What started as a simple dream to run a small family business has grown into one of Manitoba’s most trusted names in custom window coverings. This year, Budget Blinds of Southwest Manitoba proudly celebrates its 15th anniversary; a milestone built on exceptional customer service, dedicated staff, and a genuine commitment to the communities they serve.

When Sue and Gord Swarbrick opened their first location on 10th Street in Brandon, they envisioned a modest “Mom and Pop” shop specializing in blinds. In the beginning, Sue met with customers as the design consultant while Gord handled every installation. As demand for their products and services quickly grew, so did the business.

Today, Budget Blinds has expanded well beyond those early days. Their beautiful showroom, now located at 381 Park Avenue East in Brandon, offers customers the opportunity to explore the latest styles and innovations in window coverings. For added convenience, their popular mobile showrooms bring samples directly to customers’ homes, allowing homeowners to see fabrics, colours and finishes in their own spaces before making a decision. Growth hasn’t just been measured in square footage. Over the past 15 years, the Swarbricks have built an outstanding team of knowledgeable consultants, administrative professionals and skilled installers who share the company’s commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience from consultation to installation.

As they reflect on the past 15 years, Sue and Gord are quick to point out that none of it would have been possible without the incredible people who have been part of their journey. They are deeply grateful to every customer who invited Budget Blinds into their home, every employee who has represented the company with professionalism and care, every supplier and industry partner who has supported their business, and the many community organizations they have had the privilege to work alongside. The relationships they have built over the years have become the foundation of their success, and they consider themselves fortunate to have earned the trust of so many families throughout Manitoba.

While their business has continued to grow, their commitment to giving back has remained just as strong. After relocating to Manitoba to build their business, Sue and Gord quickly became deeply involved in the Brandon community. They proudly support organizations including Habitat for Humanity Brandon Chapter, United Way, and local fundraising events such as Hope for Holden and The Pinkest Owl golf tournaments. As active members of the Brandon Chamber of Commerce, they are known not only for sponsoring community initiatives but also for volunteering their time and lending a helping hand whenever needed.

That same appreciation extends to their own team. Budget Blinds celebrates employee achievements through mid and end of year celebrations and vendor appreciation trips, recognizing the people whose hard work, loyalty and dedication have helped shape the company over the past 15 years.

As they celebrate this milestone anniversary, Sue and Gord aren’t simply looking back on how much the business has grown; they’re reflecting on the relationships that made it possible. With sincere gratitude for everyone who has supported Budget Blinds over the past 15 years, they look forward to continuing to help homeowners create beautiful spaces while remaining a business that puts people first.
