In 1995, Keith Bourgeois was a Red Seal carpenter working on residential and light commercial projects when an unexpected opportunity came his way. A chance conversation with Peter Behrens, then-owner of Sunrooms & More, who was searching for someone to install a new product called Sunspace Sunrooms. That conversation would mark the beginning of a decades-long journey that would lead Keith into entrepreneurship, and ultimately, into hundreds of homes across southern Manitoba and southeastern Saskatchewan.
Sunspace was unlike anything else on the market at the time. Its modular design dramatically reduced installation time, and its innovative 2-inch thick wall system was twice as strong as competing products. Keith saw the potential immediately and launched his own business, installing 25 to 30 Sunspace sunrooms per year while continuing to refine his craft.
Six years in, Keith decided to install a sunroom on his own home, and the experience was transformative. It quickly became the most used and loved room in the house, a space that brought the outdoors in without sacrificing comfort. From that point on, any house he lived in needed to have a sunroom. He had become not just a builder, but a true believer in the product.
Keith continued installing for Sunrooms & More until 2004, when the business changed ownership. He stepped away to pursue other construction projects, including a large-scale development at Pelican Lake. But in 2011, Sunspace came calling again. Reunited with Peter Behrens, they relaunched the business under a new name, Sunspace Elite Sunrooms, and quickly built a reputation for quality, reliability, and exceptional service.
When Peter stepped away in 2017, Keith became the sole owner of the company, and he’s been leading it ever since. Though it remains a small business, Sunspace Elite Sunrooms takes on a large number of projects annually, with happy clients across Southwestern Manitoba and Southeastern Saskatchewan. Each sunroom is built with care and precision, and consistently becomes the most cherished space in the home.
Sunspace, their Canadian manufacturer based in Newcastle, Ontario, continues to lead the industry with modern, durable, and customizable products including sunrooms, patio covers, railings, decking, pergolas, and retractable screens. With Keith at the helm, Sunspace Elite Sunrooms continues to turn backyards into year-round retreats.
